Seniors team puts two more in win column

Posted in:

RANDOLPH- Randolph’s Legion team rallied in the final inning against O’Neill-Neligh to pull off a close victory in action last week. The final score: Randolph, 7, O’Neill-Neligh, 6.

The game started slow as it was 2-0 going into the fourth inning. O’Neill-Neligh found the bats in the fourth, fifth and seventh innings to make the score 6-1 in their favor going into the bottom of the seventh.

Down five going into the final inning, Randolph stormed back gaining hit after hit and run after run. But was it going to be enough? The game looked over as Randolph was down to their final out and were still down.

But wait, here comes Collyn Beal, Aiden Gubbels and Shaw Backer all with huge hits to tie the game 6-6.

Carter Korth came up to the plate with the potential winning runner on third. He came through with a dribbler down the third-base line which was poorly fielded, scoring the runner and leaving Korth with a gamewinning single.

There were bright spots in both pitching and hitting to make the comeback victory. Aiden Gubbels went 3-3 with a double and had a huge hit in the bottom of the seventh. Throwing two strikeouts in the top of the seventh, Jacob Calder made the last-inning comeback possible.

The victory marked the Seniors’ third win of the year and second win against the O’Neill-Neligh on the year.

The Seniors’ team also found themselves on top against Stanton in a high-scoring game last week, 26-15.

Pitching was not great for either team to start the game as after the third inning the score was 11-9 with Randolph in the lead. The scoring did not stop for Randolph as they scored a run every inning of the game even capping it off with a five-run sixth inning and the deciding seven-run seventh inning.

Twenty-six runs is the most Randolph has scored on the year with the catalyst being Shaw Backer who went 2-4 with three RBIs and a double. Everyone in the starting lineup for Randolph scored and was walked at least once.

On the mound, Carter Korth threw a shutout in the bottom of the fifth inning which solidified the win for Randolph.

The Seniors’ team will face Creighton-Plainview next.
