Seniors squeak past Ponca in final tune-up before post-season

Posted in:

HARTINGTON — Hartington earned a 7-6 win over Ponca in a make-up game Monday night, from earlier in the season.

Hartington plated the first run in this one, then added two more in the second frame to take a 3-0 lead.

With two out in the first frame, Seth Wiebelhaus singled and then stole his way to third base. Dain Whitmire’s single then drove him home.

Hartington scored again in the next frame. Riley Arens got things started when he drew a walk then stole second. An errant pick-off attempt at second base then allowed Arens to make it all the way home to give Hartington the 2-0 lead.

An Austin Arens’ single and stolen base kept the offense going. Ted Bengston’s fielder’s choice allowed Arens to reach third and he came home on a Body Noecker sacrifice fly.

Ponca got its bats going in the third inning, plating four runs to take the lead.

Hartington knotted it up at 4-4 in their half of the inning when Eric Hoesing found home plate. He worked his way around the bases on singles by Sam Feilmeier and Brady Steffen.
