Second Round Cancelled, Cedar Girls Golf Finishes in 14th

Posted in:

NORTH PLATTE - It has been a long, cold, and wet past few days for the Cedar Catholic girls golf team that traveled to the Class C State Championship Tournament in North Platte.

The two-day tournament started on Monday and featured cold and wet conditions that did not favor many golfers.

Now on the second day of the tournament, the girls were pulled off the course after before completing the round because course conditions were too wet for play. The Class C Championship is now decided solely from the first day of the tournament

Cedar struggled in these conditions. Ireland Biltoft led the team on Monday and sat in 40th place with a +36 round of 107. She was 24 shots off the leader Harley Hiltibrand from Ogallala.

Ending the tournament in this way is a cause for controversy considering course conditions on Tuesday were not much different than from Monday.

Complaints from coaches and parents regarding the conditions during Tuesday's round helped the NSAA make the decision to cancel the second round during play.

"I will let the NSAA know how I feel," said Cedar coach Sheila Jueden in a text message sent to a Cedar County News reporter on Tuesday after the rounds were canceled.

Jueden said she could have made a request on Monday because of the conditions but she decided not to at the time.

The Cedar team as a whole on Monday sat in 14th place on Monday and now finishes in 14th out of 15.

Biltoft keeps her 40th place finish from Monday, and she is followed by Rebekah Kleinschmit tying for 55th place with a +42 round of 113. Lauren Heine was right behind her, tied for 61st with a +45 round of 116. Hallie Noecker rounded out the team score with a +48 for a 119. Maizie Christensen finished in 84th with a +59 130.

For team scores, there is a tie for first between Cozad and Ogallala.
