Season will open with battle of Top 10 teams

Posted in:

HARTINGTON — Cedar Catholic is once again facing a brutal football schedule this season.

The Trojans will face five teams rated in the pre-season Top 10. Four of those teams were good enough to advance to the quarterfinals in last year’s playoffs, and two of those teams — Oakland-Craig and Norfolk Catholic — advanced to the state semifinals.

Cedar’s opening-season foe — BRLD — made it to the quarterfinals last year. When football was over, those same athletes then put their athletic abilities to the test on the basketball floor, earning the Class C2 state title along the way.

BRLD’s 2018 success led many football prognosticators to tab them as the top team to beat in Class C2 football this year. The Lincoln Journal Star, and Huskerland Prep Report both have BRLD rated as the top C2 team in the state.

Next up is Oakland-Craig, which is rated second in the state by most of the statewide media polls.
