Schaefer making noise in Neb. Match Play Championship
OMAHA — Cedar Catholic graduate Matthew Schaefer is making some noise at the Nebraska Match Play Championship.
Schaefer fired a two-under 69 Monday to find himself in a two-way tie for second place after the first round of stroke play qualifying for the Nebraska Match Play Championship at The Players Club in Omaha.
Bill Amundsen holds a one-shot lead over Schaefer and Husker golfer Tanner Owen.
The 97-player field wrapped up stroke-play qualifying Tuesday, with the top 32 finishers advancing to the match-play bracket.
First- and second-round matches will be played Wednesday, with quarterfinals and semifinals set for Thursday.
The 36-hole final is scheduled for Friday.
