NORFOLK – Fordyce native Matthew Schaefer earned All American status for his efforts on the Northeast Community College golf team.

In just one year with the Northeast Community men’s golf team, Schaefer has broken numerous records, while recently being named an NJCAA DII All-American Honorable Mention by the NJCAA.

He recorded a top-25 finish out of 126 golfers at the NJCAA DII Men’s Golf Championship at the Swan Lake Golf Resort in Plymouth, Ind.

Schaefer finished in a tie for 21st-place, after recording a fourday total of 303. The South Dakota State University commit shot a 73 on Day 1, followed by a 76, 82 and a 72 on the final day. As a Hawk, Schaefer shot an average score of 75 in 13 tournaments this season.

He took home two first-place finishes throughout the year, with one coming from the Midland Invite and another at the Northeast Triangular.

His accomplishments on the greens earned him some nice postseason accolades, as well.

The ICCAC, announced Thursday that Schaefer was named to the First Team All Region Team.

He finished fourth in the Region XI Tournament, carding a 150 in Ames, Iowa.
