Roger Haven Johnson

TUSTIN, Calif. — Roger Haven Johnson resident of Tustin, Calif., formerly of Laurel, succumbed to cancer in his sleep Oct. 27, 2017, at home at the age of 80 years. Born April 18, 1937, and raised in Laurel, the son of Gilbert ‘Gib’ and Mina (Dunn) Johnson, he graduated from Laurel High School in 1954. He attended and played Football for Wayne State College. He moved to California in the late 1950s, and started a family in 1960. He went to work for the Los Angeles Times as a Truck Driver for over 50 years. In his career as a driver, he was never involved in an accident. Roger enjoyed scuba diving, and water skiing and camping at the Colorado River. He rode a motorcycle all of his life, often taking trips to different parts of the country. He was a member of several motorcycle clubs, starting with the Rebel Rowers in the early 1960s. He was a devoted Nebraska Husker fan. He is preceded in death by his parents; step mother, Euvodia; his brother, Gary Johnson; and his youngest son, Russell Johnson. He leaves his wife, Judy Johnson; his brothers, Larry and Rodney Johnson; his daughter, Gail Johnson; and his son, Tommy Johnson; eight grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. A Memorial will be held at 10:30 a.m., June 15, at the Laurel Cemetery.
