Richard Earl Tweedy

CROFTON — Richard Earl Tweedy, 81, Crofton, died Jan. 18, 2018, at the Avera Sacred Heart Hospital. Yankton, S.D.
Visitation and a Vigil Service were Jan. 23 at the church.
Mass of Christian Burial will be Jan. 24, at 10:30 a.m., at the St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church, Crofton, with Rev. Timothy Podraza officiating.
Burial of his cremated remains will be in the St. Rose of Lima Cemetery, Crofton.
Pallbearers will be two of his grandsons, Bryan Tweedy and Donnie Schulte.
The Wintz Funeral Home, Crofton, is assisting with the arrangements.
Dick was born May 9, 1936, in Omaha, to Ernest Adrian and Lola Maxine (Tague) Tweedy. He grew up in Omaha and graduated from South High School in 1954. He married Kathleen Smith June 14, 1958, in Omaha and they made their home in Omaha, where Dick managed the Union Station restaurant and then was the general manager of the Birchwood Club. In 1972, they moved to Crofton where, Dick owned and operated the Sports Stop Bar for about 20 years. He was then employed at Baldwin Filters, Yankton, until he retired in 2001.
Dick was a member of the St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus. He and Kathleen were volunteers at the Crofton Senior Center and he was a former marshal at the Crofton Lake View Golf Course. He enjoyed golfing, fishing for catfish, watching birds in his backyard, woodworking in his shop and cooking. He was a wonderful husband, father and had a special fondness for his grandchildren.
Dick is survived by his wife of nearly 60 years, Kathleen Tweedy, Crofton; 14 children, Rich Tweedy and Sue Lee, Omaha; Ray and Michele Tweedy, Yankton, S.D.; Scott and Kay Tweedy, Castle Rock, Colo.; Colleen Terveer, Phoenix, Ariz.; Deanna and Calvin Schulte, Wynot; John and Lori Tweedy, Highland Ranch, Colo.; Jim and Ivet Tweedy, Elkhorn, Md.; Larry and Robyn Tweedy, Pierce; Steve and Stacey Tweedy, Glendale, Ariz.; Dale Tweedy, Kearney; Tom and Amy Tweedy, Oceanside, Calif.; Jenny and Cody Fuks, Blaine, Wash.; Christina and Nate Hebeisen, North Mankato, Minn.; and Joe Tweedy and Katie Pennell, Minneapolis, Minn.; 30 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren, with five great-grandchildren on the way; three brothers, Ernie and Bonnie Tweedy, Oxford, Ark.; Norman and Mary Jane Tweedy, Bellevue; Alan Tweedy, Omaha; and a sister, Betty and Bill Schipper, Glendale, Ariz.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Tim Tweedy, Dec. 13, 2017, at the age of 48; two brothers, Joseph and Ray Tweedy; and a sister, Lois Groseto.
