WALTON, N.Y. — Rev. Douglas Richard Potter, 89, died Oct. 27, 2022. He was born in Walton, N.Y., to Alton and Blanche (Armstrong) Potter.

He was preceded in death by his parents and beloved wife of 61 years, Lois (Bixby).

Doug is survived by his daughters, Beth Ann Potter, New York City, N.Y.; Lynne (Dan) Soderlund, Kilkenny, Minn.; and Karen (Mark) Rova, St. Michael; his loving grandchildren, Kaisa, Brynn and Spencer Rova; Jessica, Andrew and Amber, Amanda, Rebecca and Peter Soderlund; and Bernadette and Jason Fruit; as well as two great-grandchildren, Delilah Fruit and Ezra Soderlund; and his faithful feline companion, Sam.

Doug was a graduate of Muskingham College in Ohio. For his Master of Divinity, he attended Pittsburgh-Xenia Theological Seminary, where he met Lois. Together, they served Presbyterian congregations in Ohio, Maryland, Nebraska and lastly, at Calvin Presbyterian Church, Long Lake, Minn., where he served for 25 years.

Although formally retired as a pastor, he wasn’t content being idle. Doug continued to serve as a church organist, pianist, chaplain, mentor, election judge and volunteer with Lake Minnetonka Shores in numerous capacities.

Memorials preferred to Calvin Presbyterian Church. Public visitation was Nov. 2 at Calvin Presbyterian with the service following at Rettinger Funeral Home Long Lake/Orono. Funeral services were also livestreamed at calvinchurch.net.
