Randolph boys surge past Elkhorn Valley

Posted in:

RANDOLPH — The Cardinals used a huge second-quarter surge Friday to take control of their non-conference game with Elkhorn Valley.

The Cards and Falcons traded shots evenly in the opening frame with the Green Machine earning a 21-17 scoring advantage.

Randolph’s defense put the screws to the Falcons in the second frame, earning a 22-8 scoring advantage to take a 39-29 lead into the locker room at the break. The Falcons ended up outscoring the Cards 30-27 over the final 16 minutes, but it was too little, too late as Coach Mark Anderson’s team walked away with the 66-59 win.

The long ball was a friend for the Cards Friday night as Randolph made good on 47 percent of their 3-point attempts.

The Cards were led by a balanced offensive attack, as Carter Schnoor led the way with 24 points. Jamison Svehla connected for 18 points and Keaton Backhaus chipped in with 13.

Schnoor and Svehla were both hot on the night.

Schnoor hit 2-3 from long distance and 64 percent of his regular field goal attempts. Svehla made good on 6-11 from long distance, but missed his only shot attempt in close. Backhaus also had a solid night, hitting a doubledouble as he yanked down a team-high 10 rebounds.
