Radon testing kits are available through NE Neb. Public Health

Posted in:

WAYNE — Radon is a colorless, odorless, tasteless, invisible gas that is present in some types of soil. The types of soil in Northeast Nebraska usually contain very high levels of radon.

The Environmental Protection Agency’s action level of radon is 4 pCi/L. This means that any test result over this level is considered dangerous to your health and steps should be taken to minimize radon exposure.

Each year, 21,000 Americans die from radon-induced lung cancer. A simple test can tell you whether your home has radon. Now is the time to take precautions and test your home.

Northeast Nebraska Public Health Department offers residents of Cedar, Dixon, Thurston and Wayne counties radon test kits for $5. Test kits are available at NNPHD or your local county extension office.
