Powerful Dakota Valley offense rolls past Cedar

Posted in:

NORTH SIOUX CITY — The Cedar Catholic Trojans traveled to South Dakota to take on one of that state’s best midsized teams Thursday.

The Trojans found out that Dakota Valley has a pretty potent offense, as the Trojans fell 92-66 to the Panthers.

Dakota Valley is rated fourth in the lastest S.D. Class A state poll. That division is equivalant to a small Class B or large Class C1 school in Nebraska.

The two teams matched up pretty well in the first frame with the Panthers taking a 20-16 lead at the end of the first quarter.

The Panthers kept up the offensive assault going in the second frame, while Cedar struggled to make its shots. The home team put together a 28-10 run to take a 48-26 lead at the halftime break.

The Panthers ouscored Cedar 45-40 in the second half to seal the win.

Paul Bruns dominated the action for the home team.

He hit a double-double with 36 points and 15 rebounds. He also dished out six assists for the Panthers.

Isaac Bruns hit for 15 points, while teammate Drew Addison finished with 13 points

Tate Thoene paced Cedar with 19 points and Brady Steffen had 12 points. Steffen put in a solid all-around effort as he also dished out six assists and collected seven steals.

The Trojans were slated to play Pierce on Friday, but that game was wiped out with the winter storm.
