Post-season projections are favorable for area teams

Posted in:

HARTINGTON — Several area schools would earn high seeds if the SubDistrict girls basketball tournaments were held today. The official pairings will not be released by the NSAA until after all regular season games are in the books. The Cedar Catholic and Hartington-Newcastle girls will both compete in the same post-season tourney — SubDistrict D13 in Ponca. According to the NSAA power points as of Monday, Feb. 11, Cedar Catholic would earn the top seed in the SubDistrict and would take on the winner of a play-in game between Wausa and Creighton. Hartington-Newcastle would earn the second seed and would then take on third-seeded Niobrara-Verdigre. Those winners would then meet Thursday Feb. 20 in the SubDistrict title game. Even though the seeding for SubDistrict D2-2 has not been set, the Wynot Lady Blue Devils are already assured to be the top seed in the tournament, which starts Tuesday at the Msgr. Werner Activity Center in Hartington. Wynot currently has the fourth most power points of any Class D2 girls team in the state. Other teams in the D2-2 SubDistrict are Randolph, Winside and Emerson-Hubbard. None of these teams have winning records. As of Monday, Randolph with a 5-13 record, would earn the second seed in the tourney. Two area Class C2 schools, Crofton and Ponca, look to be destined for top seeds in their respective tournaments. Ponca will play in C2-4 at Pender, while Crofton will compete in C2-7 at O’Neill.
