Pitching duel ends in loss for Seniors

Posted in:

CREIGHTON- Randolph Legion lost to Creighton-Plainview for the second time this season with a score of 7-3.

Randolph was in the game the whole way. It was a pitching duel for most of the game with the score being 3-1 in favor of Creighton- Plainview going into the fifth inning.

The fifth inning was ultimately the deciding inning as Creighton scored four runs to Randolph’s one run making the score 7-2.

Only one run was scored for the rest of the game.

Randolph could never find that big inning that they have found in all their wins this season.

Leaving runners on base was a major factor in this game as Randolph had seven hits but only three runs while Creighton-Plainview had four hits but ended with seven runs.

“We need to score the runners when they’re in scoring position and we need to be smart but aggressive on the bases,” said Aiden Gubbels who shows up to work at first base and pitcher. “I feel we need to get bats going and we need to be more consistent and confident in the field.”

Collyn Beal was the major driving force for Randolph’s three runs as he scored twice and went 2-3 with a double.

Gubbels kept Randolph in the game with his pitching as he pitched four strong innings with six strikeouts and only four walks.

Randolph also played a game against Hartington which ended 22-1 in action last week.

Randolph has a game against Hartington and Ponca before the area tournament as they look to get dialed in on making a tournament run.
