Orleta Sophie Dowling

RANDOLPH — Orleta Sophie Dowling, 88, Randolph, died Dec. 9, 2018, at her home in Randolph.

Visitation will be 4-8 P.M., Friday, at Johnson Funeral Home, Randolph.

Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m., Dec. 15, at United Methodist Church, Randolph, with Rev. Judy Carlson officiating.

Interment will be in Randolph Cemetery, Randolph.

Pallbearers will be Orleta’s grandsons, Jeff Graham, Dan Graham, Andy Graham, Tony Dowling, Jim

Dowling, Scott Neuhalfen, Tim Hans, Matthew Dowling and Bradley Dowling.

Orleta was born March 19, 1930, at Dodge, to Frank and Agnes (Bailey) Vlasak. She graduated from Carroll High School and received her teaching certificate at Wayne State Teachers College, Wayne. She taught in rural schools in Wayne and Pierce counties. Orleta married Glen Dowling Dec. 30, 1949, at Zion Congregational Church, rural Carroll. The couple farmed west of Carroll and near Randolph until 1989, when they retired and moved to Randolph.

She was past member of Zion Congregational Church, rural Carroll; served as 4-H Leader of A&E Girls; employed as a cook for Randolph Senior Citizens Center; Randolph Women’s Club.

She was an avid card player, enjoyed sewing, crocheting and baking pies.

Surviving include her five children, Lynn and Karen Dowling, Randolph; Kathy and Randall Graham, Omaha; Carol and Larry Hans, Lincoln; Sharon Neuhalfen, Arlington; Michael Dowling, Randolph; 14 grandchildren, Jennifer Vrbka, Tony and Jim Dowling; Jeff, Dan and Andy Graham; Tim Hans; Kelly Martin; Kristle Raile, Amanda Mleziva; Scott Neuhalfen; Matthew and Bradley Dowling; and Sarah Deardorff; 27 great-grandchildren; sister, Shirley Gubbels, Randolph; and sister-in-law, Doris Dowling, Syracuse.

Orleta was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Glen, Dec. 1, 2008; daughter-in-law, Carol Dowling; and sonin-law, Michael Neuhalfen.
