Nursing Home is awarded five-star rating

Posted in:

RANDOLPH - It’s no secret that the last two years have been extremely trying for those in healthcare - especially for those in nursing home settings - as they weather the COVID-19 pandemic.

“Not only have we been tackling the virus and attempting to minimize in every way possible its impact on our residents and our staff, we have been faced with regulatory changes and updates, and increased scrutiny via specialized surveys from state and federal agencies over this same time period,” said Mara Burbach, administrator in training at Colonial Manor in Randolph. “While we understand the need for such changes and scrutiny, there have been a lot of moving parts to manage at a most pivotal time.”

Even during the stress of ever-changing regulations and extra COVID-19 precautions, Colonial Manor’s 74 staff members have been committed to high quality care and were recently given a five-star rating from the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS).

CMS created the Five-Star Quality Rating System to help consumers, their families, and caregivers compare nursing homes more easily, giving each nursing home a rating of between one and five stars. Nursing homes with five stars are considered to have above average quality and is the highest rating given.

CMS considers health inspections, staffing ratios and quality measures when coming up with a star rating. The last time the facility received a five-star rating was in 2015.

“It speaks directly to the commitment of the staff. It is a privilege and a pleasure to be a part of this team and to serve the Colonial Manor community,” Burbach said.

Colonial Manor was informed of the rating through a report by CMS that was posted and made available for viewing.

And then the celebration began with staff members receiving gifts and a luncheon as appreciation for their hard work.

“We are grateful daily for the work they do and the commitment they have to our residents and to one another,” Burbach said. “It is through their efforts that we were able to produce the results required to achieve the five-star status and I hope they felt the depth of the facility’s appreciation.”

Colonial Manor is a licensed, 45-bed skilled nursing facility and also nine-bed assisted living center.
