NSAA releases new football classifications

Posted in:

LINCOLN — The Nebraska School Activities Association released the new enrollment numbers and football classifications this week.

All five Cedar County schools participating in football — Cedar Catholic, Hartington-Newcastle, Laurel-Concord-Coleridge, Randolph and Wynot — will remain in the same classes next year.

There are only nine schools smaller than Cedar Catholic in 11-man football next season.

Two teams the Trojans played last season will be moving down to eightman football. David City and West Holt have both opted down.

In all, seven schools have decided to opt down out of 11-man football and into Class D1 next year. Those schools will not, however, be eligible for postseason play. Area schools opting down include Wakefield and West Holt.

Laurel-Concord-Coleridge, which will again compete in Class D1 for football, is the 20th largest school in that class.

A new football cooperative, Wausa-Osmond, will also compete in D1 football next year.

Another area school, Bloomfield, moved up into D1 this year, after being in D2 for several years.

In 11-man football, Boone Central, the C1 state champion this year, has dropped down to C2 next year.
