HARTINGTON — The Hartington-Newcastle School Board Monday renewed a cooperation agreement for a special education contract with the Laurel-Concord-Coleridge School District.

The agreement with the LCC School District will allow the HNS District to educate two students at the Level III Special Education facility in Coleridge.

HNS has utilized the services of the LCC District and Coleridge facility for several years, now. The Level III facility is utilized by several area districts

Also Monday, Supt. A.J. Johnson told Board members a van the school ordered prior to the pandemic hitting here has finally arrived. A strike, and then the pandemic slowed production of the vehicle down for several months, but it is now in service, Johnson said.

The Board was also advised that Parent-Teacher Conferences are scheduled for Oct. 21. Parents will have several options on how to best meet with teachers, Supt. Johnson said. They can either schedule a traditional face-to-face meeting, or set up a Zoom or telephone meeting with teachers.

“It’s all up to the parents on how comfortable they may or may not feel about a teacher conference,” Supt. Johnson said.

The next HNS School Board meeting is slated for 5:30 p.m., Nov. 9.
