New generation joins local business

Posted in:

HARTINGTON — A new face with a familiar name is now occupying a desk at the Cedar County News.

Kellyn Dump, 26, has joined the Cedar County News as an advertising and marketing specialist.

Dump is the son of Cedar County News and Northeast Nebraska News Company publishers Rob Dump and Peggy Year.

He joins the newspaper staff after working with Christensen Well in Hartington the past two years.

After graduating from Cedar Catholic High School in 2012 and attending school at Wayne State College and then the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, Dump joined the work force, working for Enterprise Car Rentals and VVS of Lincoln before moving back to Hartington to work for Christensen Well.

Dump will work with advertising clients for all five of the Northeast Nebraska News Company publications and the NE Nebraska Rocket, as well as the company’s three websites — www.hartington.net, newsfirstne.com and www.northeastnebraskanews.us.

Growing up in the newspaper business, Kellyn’s been involved in many facets of the operation over the years.

As a young child he would travel with his dad and sister in the summers to help in the press room at the Osmond Republican and then in the mail room at the Laurel Advocate.

When the Northeast Nebraska News Company relocated its printing operations to Hartington, he helped out in the press room, and occasionally wrote a sports story or took a photo, but was never involved in the actual customer relations or day-to-day operation of the newspaper.

He is excited to take on this new challenge.

”Growing up in Hartington, and growing up with my parents in newspapers, I was always aware of the business, but I’m getting a whole new education now that I see the operation up close,” he said.

The new marketing specialist said he is eager to show area business owners how to better market and promote their businesses.

“The Northeast Nebraska News Company has a lot of different tools to help local businesses succeed,” he said. “I’m  going to enjoy talking to people about their businesses and working to find a way to help them.”

His parents are very happy he has decided to join the team.

“We are excited to have Kellyn join the business,” said News co-publisher Rob Dump. “He’s perfect for this role. He’s a great communicator, he’s inquisitive and he really enjoys going out and talking with people. He’s been around this business his entire life, but now he will get a chance to see it from a new perspective. And he will be able to bring that new perspective to his customers.”
