New case of coronavirus is reported in Cedar County

WAYNE — The Northeast Nebraska Public Health Dept. reported Monday that another Cedar County resident has tested positive for the virus.

That brings the total number of cases in Cedar County to eight.

The Northeast Nebraska Public Health District now has a total of 141 positive cases. Thurston County has the most cases in the District with 85, seven of those coming this week.

Coronavirus cases in the District are:

• Cedar 8

• Wayne 16

• Dixon 32

• Thurston 85

Two people in the Northeast Nebraska Public Health District have died from the virus to date. NNPH District Director Julie Rother said that a Thurston County resident in their 70s died Thursday. The other COVID-19 death also took place in Thurston County. Cedar County has not reported any deaths from the virus.

In all, 958 COVID-19 tests have been conducted on residents living in the Northeast Neb. Health Dept. District.

Of those, 773 people tested negative for the disease and the results on 44 more are still pending.

Area businesses have begun reopening to the public.

All Hartington banks and several other offices that had been closed to the public opened their lobbies this week.

There were 244 more cases of coronavirus infections reported in Nebraska Monday.

As of 6 p.m., Monday, the state had 14,345 COVID-19 cases with 170 deaths. The United States reported 1,847,694 cases as of 6 p.m. Monday and 106,352 deaths.

The vast majority of the state — 89 of 93 counties — entered Phase Two of the Governor’s plan to reopen. That means all businesses can now reopen, but with limitations.

Dakota, Hall, Hamilton and Merrick counties still have more strict regulations because the virus has taken a bigger toll on those counties.
