Nebraska leads the nation in several ag categories

LINCOLN — Nebraska agricultural producers lead the nation in several categories.

According to statistics compiled by the Nebraska Department of Agriculture and USDA National Ag Statistics Service, Nebraska Field Offices, Nebraska leads all other U.S. states in beef and veal exports, and commercial cattle slaughter. 

The Cornhusker state is also first in the naton in Great Northern bean production and popcorn production.

In  2017 the state produced  368,620,976 pounds of popcorn.

Nebraska exported $1,318,500,000 worth of beef and veal in 2018, the last year statistics are available.

In 2019, the state was tops in the nation in commercial cattle slaughter with  7,666,300 head.

Jan. 1, 2020 statistics show Nebraska was second in the nation in cattle on feed with  2,600,000 head.

The Cornhusker state was also second in the country in commercial red meat production in  2019 with  8,289,800,000 pounds.

Nebraska's ethanol production was also second in the nation, according to 2019  statistics. The state produced  2,186,000,000 gallons of ethanol in 2018.
