Memorial Day services are cancelled this year

HARTINGTON — The coronavirus has knocked out another traditional springtime event.

Hartington VFW Post Commander Dean McGregor said the local Post will not hold its traditional Memorial Day celebration at the Cedar County Courthouse or graveside services this year.

“I hate to do this, but this is a different deal we’re in right now,” McGregor said. “Hopefully, things will get back to normal soon, and we can go back to doing things like we used to.”

McGregor said VFW members are still planning to put up the flags around the courthouse at 1 p.m., Saturday, to help people remember the occasion. He is planning on having the flags taken down Monday, at 4 p.m.
