Maurice J. Wuebben

WYNOT — Maurice J. Wuebben, 86, Wynot, died Dec. 12, 2018, at Ava’s Hospice House, Sioux Falls, S.D.

Visitation and a Vigil Service were Dec. 14 at Holy Family (Sacred Heart) Catholic Church, Wynot, and continued one hour prior to services at the church.

Mass of Christian Burial was Dec. 15 at the Holy Family (Sacred Heart) Catholic Church, with Rev. Eric Olsen officiating. Burial was in the Sacred Heart Cemetery, Wynot.

Pallbearers were Terry Becker, Matt Burbach, Bart Wuebben, Matt Wuebben, Jim Cleveland and Bruce Wuebben. Honorary pallbearers were Terry and Cheryl Pinkelman, Ron and Rose Rolfes, Larry and Kathy Lauer, Dennis and Deb Kruse, and Gene and Kathy Promes.

The Wintz Funeral Home, Hartington, assisted with the arrangements.

Maurice John was born Oct. 4, 1932, to Fred and Evelyn (Becker) Wuebben. He attended country school and then Sacred Heart through the eighth grade. Maurice graduated from Wynot High school in 1950. He helped his dad on the family farm and worked for Becker Transfer until joining the teamsters at Murphy Transfer, Sioux City, Iowa, where he worked for 30+ years. They later bought the business, calling it River City freight. He went to work for Wynot Farm Store for 20+ years, after his retirement from the teamsters.

Maurice had a special love for faith, family and friends. He was a member of the Sacred Heart Parish all his life, helping with breakfasts, holy hours, usher or anything asked of him.

Maurice married the love of his life, Diane M. Burbach, Sept. 7, 1981. They lived their entire married life in Wynot. They enjoyed 34 years together.

Maurice loved horses and especially rounding up cattle. He was a member of the Bow Creek Saddle Club and was involved in many trail rides and parades. Maurice was also an avid Wynot basketball and baseball fan and attended as many games as possible.

Maurice is survived by two stepsons, Tim (Fay) Burbach, Hartington, and Loni Burbach, Norfolk; three grandchildren, Ashley (Forrest) Dendinger, Hartington; Casey (Josh) Masen, Omaha; and Matt (Becky) Burbach, Columbus; great-grandchildren, Teyton, Hadley and Piper Dendinger, and Kallie Burbach; brothers and sisters, Donalda (Gene) Kolbeck, Dell Rapids, S.D.; Chuck (Phyllis) Wuebben, Fort Mill, S.C.; Audrey Cleveland, Montrose, S.D.; Ron (Mary) Wuebben and Clair (Diann) Wuebben, Sioux Falls, S.D.; sister-in-law, Pat Wuebben, Sioux Falls, S.D.; and numerous nieces, nephews and friends.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Diane, Dec. 31, 2015, at age 74; his stepdaughter, Kelli Burbach; parents, Fred and Evelyn Wuebben; sister and brother-in-law, Delores (Dewey) Becker; brother, Claude Wuebben; brother, Norm Wuebben; infant brother, Richard Wuebben; and brother-in-law, Bob Cleveland.
