Marvin Hartman

DIXON — Marvin Hartman, 85, Dixon, died Feb. 20, 2018,at Providence Medical Center, Wayne. Visitation and a prayer service were Feb. 22, at Concord Evangelical Free Church, Concord. Funeral Services were Feb. 23, at Concord Evangelical Free Church, Concord. Interment with Military Rites was held at Concord Cemetery. Arrangements were under the direction of Hasemann Funeral Home, Laurel. Marvin Eugene Hartman, son of Ellis and Edith (Curry) Hartman was born in Sumner, Wash., July 19, 1932. He attended grade school at Powder Creek Country School. He graduated from Newcastle High School, Newcastle. He took Normal Training out of High School so he could teach. He taught country school for three years until 1950, before entering the service in 1953. He served in the U.S. Army for two years, then attended summer school at Wayne State and taught two more years at Wallace Magnuson School. He married Janice Lisle Dec. 26, 1955. They lived and farmed in the Dixon area since March 1956. Marvin was active in the Dixon United Methodist Church as a teacher, youth leader, lay leader, Board Chairman, and Vice-Chairman. He was active in the Dixon community as a chair person for Dixon County Farm Bureau board, was Secretary of Dixon Public School Board, and an active member of the Concord Gideon Camp. Marvin and his wife, Janice, helped to organize Dad’s Helpers 4-H Club in Dixon County in 1968, and the club is still active today. Marvin and Janice were a great influence in many of their nieces and nephews’ lives in their early years together. They also had a great impact in the lives of young men, as they chose to be house parents at Omaha Home For Boys. Marvin also worked at Farmers Coop delivering propane, operating a floater, and fixing tires. He loved his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, good cattle, and “Life on the Farm.” At the time of death, Marvin was a member of the Concord Evangelical Free Church and had served as Elder. He loved his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren and enjoyed attending in person, or by phone, his children and grandchildren’s activities. The grandchildren have many fond memories of time with Grandma and Grandpa on the farm. He is survived by his son, Clayton (Sandy) Hartman, Dixon, and daughter, Lori (Bill) Johnson, Broken Arrow, Okla.; seven grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren, two sisters, Beverly (Floyd) Bloom, Laurel, and Bernadine Lowry, Hooper. He was preceded in death by his wife, Janice, in March 2007; parents, Ellis and Edith Hartman; and sister, Joy Hartman. Memorials may be directed to the Hartman family for later designation.
