OMAHA — Marlene Ann Hintz, 89, Omaha, died peacefully Aug. 16, 2021.

Visitation and a memorial service were Aug. 28 at Immanuel Lutheran Church, officiated by Pastor Alan Hanson.

Burial was in Forest Lawn Cemetery, Omaha.

Honorary pallbearers were her seven grandsons, Ryan Koch, Travis Koch, Nicholas Hintz, Robert Hintz, Michael Hintz, Maurice Hintz and Blake Gengenbach.

Marlene was born July 9, 1932, on a farm near Coleridge, to Lawrence and Dorothy (Holsworth) Mathers. She lost her mother at the age of 4, and was raised by her dad and step mother, Clara (Reifenrath) Mathers. She spent summers and some weekends with her grandparents in Wynot, whom she dearly loved. She was baptized and confirmed at the Lutheran Church in Wynot, where she also attended Bible School every summer. She graduated from Obert Public School in 1950, then moved to Sioux City, Iowa, to work for Northwestern Bell Telephone Company. She married Harold Hintz Aug. 29, 1953, at St. John’s Lutheran Church, Council Bluffs, Iowa. They lived in Carter Lake, Iowa, for ten years, moving to Spokane, Wash., for several years, then returning to Omaha. In their early years, they went camping and fishing, and belonged to a mixed bowling league.

Marlene worked for the State of Nebraska welfare office, retiring in 1998. She and her husband then traveled to Spokane several times and went on many overnight bus tours.

Marlene was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church and active in the women’s circle. She loved to go out to dinner with her friends, enjoyed playing cards with neighbors and friends, doing word puzzles, gardening and was an avid reader. Most of all, she enjoyed her family and attending their events.

She is survived by two sons, two daughters and their spouses, Mark Hintz, Jeff and Jessica Hintz, Tami and John Koch, all of Omaha; and Kelly and Brent Gengenbach, Eustis; one step daughter, Kathy and John Merchant, McCook Lake, S.D.; grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Harold; and her half-sister, Carlene Boeckman.
