Marcella Cecelia “Sally” Blaschke

FORDYCE — Marcella Cecelia “Sally” Blaschke, 94, Fordyce, died Aug. 30, 2019, at the Avera Majestic Bluffs Hospice House, Yankton, S.D.

Visitation will be Thursday from 5-8 p.m., with a vigil service at 7 p.m., at the church. Visitation will begin at 9 a.m., Friday, at the church.

Mass of Christian Burial will be Sept. 6, at 10 a.m., at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Fordyce, with Rev. Jim Keiter officiating.

Burial will be in St. John the Baptist Cemetery, Fordyce.

Pallbearers will be Brandan Blaschke, Gunnar Blaschke, Eric Niedergeses, Matt McDowell, Corey McPhillips, Nathan McPhillips and Lincoln McPhillips.

The Wintz Funeral Home, Hartington, is in charge of arrangements.

Sally was born July 3, 1925, in Yankton, S.D., to Frank and Mary (Perk) Bollich. She grew up in the Menominee area and graduated from Yankton High School in 1943. Sally married Benedict H. Blaschke Oct. 19, 1948, in Menominee. After their marriage, they farmed northeast of Fordyce. Sally worked for the school lunch program at West Catholic for many years. She loved all the kids. She moved into Fordyce in the mid 1990s and lived there since then.

She was a member of the St. John the Baptist Church and Guild, as well as the Christian Mothers.

Sally enjoyed sewing, quilting, and making blankets for her grandchildren. She loved sports and enjoyed watching the Twins and Royals. She also enjoyed doing crossword puzzles, playing cards and traveling.

Sally is survived by three children, Roger and Kathy Blaschke of Black Diamond, Wash.; Tami and Brian Tomlinson, Iberia, Mo.; Connie McPhillips and fiancé, Leonard Kleinschmit, Wausa; seven grandchildren, Brandan Blaschke, Gunnar Blaschke, Dawn and Eric Niedergeses, Meagan and Matt McDowell, Corey and Keli McPhillips, Nathan and Meghan McPhillips, and Lincoln McPhillips; five great-grandchildren, Lauren, Isaac and Sam Niedergeses, Easton Witt and Connor McDowell; sister, Lorraine Schlueter, Minneapolis, Minn.; and sister-in-law, Alvina Schrempp, Yankton, S.D.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Benedict, April 2, 2003, at the age of 79; two infant children; a daughter, Lois Blaschke; three brothers, Anthony, Norbert and Art Bollich; and a sister, Colleen Brennaman.
