Man faces theft charges in stolen ring case
HARTINGTON — A Norfolk man is wanted in connection to a jewelry theft from a Magnet couple.
Judge Douglas Luebe signed an arrest warrant for Sage Stolpe, 21, in connection with the theft of four rings valued at several thousand dollars.
He is charged with felony theft by unlawful taking after the couple reported the rings stolen and Cedar County deputies investigated. According to court documents, the rings were taken to a Norfolk jeweler and sold.
Stolpe is out on bond for another felony case out of Adams County for sexual assault of a minor.
In that case it’s alleged Stolpe met a 15-year-old girl through social media and drove to Hastings to pick her up. The alleged sexual encounter occurred in the vehicle while parked in a rural area of Adams County.
A preliminary hearing is set for early March.
In other court news: - Samantha Fredericksen, 32, Sioux City, Iowa, appeared in Cedar County District Court and pleaded not guilty to felony charges of escape, operating a motor vehicle to avoid arrest, theft by unlawful taking, obstructing an officer, and other misdemeanors. A pre-trial date has been set for Feb. 27.
Fredericksen allegedly pushed past a jailer serving her breakfast at the Cedar County jail, stole a vehicle owned by Cedar County Emergency Management and led law enforcement on a pursuit through two counties before she was caught.
- Jackson Metheny, 26, Laurel, appeared in Cedar County District Court and his pre-trial was continued until Feb. 27 with a March trial scheduled. A reduction of his bond was denied. He is accused of escape, stalking, protection order violation, assaulting a jailer, criminal trespassing and disturbing the peace. He also has a pending theft charge in Dixon County.
- Brandon Meyers, 27, Hartington, was sentenced to an additional three months of probation with additional requirements. He was facing a revocation of probation on charges of third-degree assault, tampering with a witness and criminal mischief in connection with using an Airlift BB gun to shoot at and damage a vehicle last summer, and another incident in which he threatened two juveniles with a short-barreled BB gun last fall. In one of the cases, Meyers sent a social media message to a friend to cover for him so he wouldn’t get in trouble.
- David Schenk, 38, Wynot, was sentenced in Cedar County Court to 12 months of probation after a domestic assault charge was reduced to disturbing the peace.
