Lois Urwiler

ST. EDWARD — Memorial Services for Lois Urwiler, 85, St. Edward, formerly of Page, will be 10:30 a.m., May 8, at Faith Community Church, O’Neill, with Pastor Troy Watson officiating.

Burial will be in the Page Cemetery.

Memorial Visitation will be from 9:30-10:30 a.m., at the church, prior to the service. Lois died April 16, 2021, at Cloverlodge Care Center, St. Edward.

Memorials may be directed to the family for future designation.

Biglin’s Mortuary, O’Neill, is in charge of arrangements.

Lois Arlene Elsberry was born Aug. 4, 1935, to Myrl and Arlene (Lichty) Elsberry, rural Page. She attended country school at Brunswick, after her folks moved there to find work. The family relocated back to Page, she attended country school up through eighth grade. Lois completed her high school education and received her diploma in 1954 from Orchard Public High School, Orchard. Lois attended college, earning a teaching degree. She taught at country schools around her home area and one year at Clearwater. Lois put her heart and soul into teaching, making lasting memories for the children that grew to love her. She also had placed her faith in her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, at an early age.

Lois married Roy Milton Urwiler June 4, 1963, at the O’Neill Wesleyan Church, O’Neill. The couple made their home on Roy’s farm north of Laurel. They had three children, Harlan, Loren and Kevin. In addition to being a homemaker, Lois was employed at the nursing home in Laurel, and then returned to her love of teaching for four years at the Christian school in Laurel.

Lois opened her home countless times to neighborhood club ladies, to church families, to close friends and relatives where she would spend hours cleaning, baking, and cooking. Lois will always be remembered for her homemade bread and cinnamon rolls. When her children were grown, Lois’s life journey had her living in various places starting at Hartington, and eventually back at her parent’s homestead for three years to help with her mother and a dear family friend. From there, Lois moved to and resided in Yankton, S.D., for 11 and one half years. While in Yankton, Lois kept herself active in her church, entertained countless family and neighbor friends. Lois’ front door was always open to her friends and they visited her frequently where fun, food, and fellowship were enjoyed by all. Her last move came in May 2017 to the Evergreen Assisted Living, O’Neill, and then to the Cloverlodge Care Center in St. Edward, in November 2018 for the convenience of her family.

Lois is survived by her two sons, Harlan (Manilyn) Urwiler. Olathe, Kan., and Loren (Cheryl) Urwiler, Sioux Falls, S.D.; ten grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; five siblings, Ronald Elsberry, Wayne; Sharon (Milton) Boysen, Arizona; Norman (Geri) Elsberry, Orchard; Eugene (Trudy) Elsberry,Page; and Janiece (Dennis) Fox, Albion; and many nieces and nephews.

Lois was preceded in death by her grandparents; her parents, Myrl and Arlene Elsberry; her husband, Roy Urwiler, in 2004; her son, Kevin Urwiler; her brother, Virgil Elsberry; an infant sister; and numerous other relatives and close friends.
