Local wrestlers medal at Plainview

PLAINVIEW — Three Cedar Catholic wrestlers earned medals and the Trojans finished 10th as a team in the 16-team Plainview Invitational Saturday. Eric Hoesing and Conner Hochstein posted 3-1 records on the day on their way to silver medal finishes. Nash Albers finished with a 2-2 mark on the day, advancing to the third-place match. Hoesing, who now holds a 33-5 record on the year, earned pins in his first two 170-pound matches before earning a 12-5 decision in the semifinals to advance to the title match. He dropped a 12-2 decision to Plainview’s Alizae Mejia in the championship match. Hochstein, now 19-11 on the year, took a similar path to the 152-pound title match. He earned pins in his first two matches, before settling for an 11-8 decision in the semifinals over Laurel’s Nolan Ohlrich. He then fell to Plainview’s Will Gunning in the title match. Also competing for Cedar at Plainview were:

• 145 - Kerby Hochstein, who put together a 2-2 record.

• 145 - Cole Stefensen, who went 0-2 on the day. The regular season wraps up this week with a pair of tournaments. The MidState Conference Tournament will be held on Thursday at Battle Creek. The regular season finale will then be held Saturday for the annual Norfolk Catholic Invitational. The 16-team District C1 wrestling meet will be held Feb. 14-15 in Malcolm. The four top finishers in that meet will then advance to the Feb. 20-22 State Tournament at the CHI Center in Omaha. Teams competing at this year’s C1 District Wrestling Tournament are: Archbishop Bergan, Bishop Neumann, Cross County/Osceola. Fillmore Central. Fort Calhoun. HTRS.Cedar Catholic, Lincoln Lutheran, Malcolm, Norfolk Catholic, Ponca, Syracuse, Tri County, Winnebago, Wood River and Yutan.
