Local Students attend National FFA Convention

Posted in:

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. — 69,944 FFA members traveled by bus and plane to attend the 92nd National FFA Convention in Indianapolis, Ind. This is an experience of a lifetime to see that many blue corduroy jackets take over downtown Indianapolis. Nine members of the Hartington Newcastle FFA Chapter received that experience Oct. 29 - Nov. 2.

Every chapter’s experience is a bit different but all who attend take away an experience that makes them appreciate the organization they are a part of even more.

The Hartington Newcastle chapter spent two days at the convention, during which the members walked through the FFA Mall, where you could buy anything with an FFA symbol on it you could buy it. Talk with over 400 different companies at the career fair and attend some smaller sessions.

The sessions make the students think about their future endeavors and pulled them out of their comfort zones to meet new people from around the nation.

Old Dominion was this year’s entertainment, and the students got some great seats to sing and dance along to them. We also attended the Opening Session, when the National FFA officers talked about the impact and changes in the upcoming year. Also while there students toured the Indianapolis Motor Speedway, which the students really enjoyed being able to reenact the “kissing of the bricks.”

On the third day, members headed to Chicago to experience the city.

Students saw the Bean, and took a river tour of the city. They also visited Soldier Field, home of the Chicago Bears. The group continued on home and took their last detour to the John Deere Tractor and Engine Museum, where students saw all the new technology, tools and tractors that are being built.
