Local schools shut down out of COVID19 fears

HARTINGTON — School officials from Cedar Catholic, Holy Trinity and Hartington-Newcastle schools have announced they will close school for the rest of the week after a potential exposure of the COVID19 virus in the community.

Hartingon-Newcastle school officials said because of this, "as a precaution by the Health Department, there will be no school at Hartington-Newcastle Public Schools on Wednesday, March 11, or Thursday, March 12."

Cedar Catholic also announced they would be closing "out of abundance of caution, CCHS will be closed through Friday due to possible COVID19 exposure."

A news release from the Nebraska Dept. of Health and Human Services announced that a presumptive positive case of coronavirus disease has been reported to the Neb. Dept. of Health and Human Services. DHHS is awaiting final confirmation from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. This person is from Northeast Nebraska and will be transferred to the Biocontainment Unit at Nebraska Medicine/UNMC.

The Department noted they are,"rapidly assessing potential exposures to determine next steps," the release said.
