Local churches have to make some drastic changes

Posted in:

HARTINGTON — Monday’s decision to limit public gathering to 10 or fewer people has some repercussions for area churchgoers.

All church services have been cancelled. All Lenten breakfasts were also cancelled as were all of the Lenten Fish Frys.

Confessions are still being heard Tuesday-Saturday at 5:30 p.m. he said.

Holy Trinity Pastor Fr. Owen Korte said he will celebrate a private Mass daily at the rectory and will broadcast those services through Facebook Live so his parishioners can still have Mass as part of their lives.

Some technical challenges will first need to be overcome, however, he said.

As of Tuesday afternoon, the local church still didn’t have a Facebook page. One is being set up, though, he said.

Pastor Amanda Talley has also been forced to cancel church services at Trinity Lutheran Church here.

Initially, she had planned to continue church services, but cancel Sunday School, and confirmation classes until at least the end of March.

That plan had to be altered to cancel all church services, though, to fit within the new guidelines suggesting that no more than 10 people gather together at one time.

Fr. Korte said even funerals are being affected as only a handful of people are able to attend them. Some families are planning remembrance celebrations for a later date when family members and friends can all attend, he said.
