Local bowling teams fare well in their first season of competition

Posted in:

HARTINGTON — It has been a decent start to the official NSAA tenure for the Hartington-Newcastle bowling program.

So far, the boys team is 3-4 overall – with a 1-1 dual record, while the girls are 4-2 and 1-0.

Nate Holan, one of the team’s coaches, said the first chapter of the program has been interesting.

“It has been with all the safety guidelines and so far, not really being able to have spectators at our meets,” Holan said.

Holan said getting the team up and running and helping HNS Athletic Director Blair Kalin set up the schedule took some work.

“It was a new experience for me,” he said. Holan said the team is doing well for its first season as an NSAA sanctioned sport.

“I believe the teams are close to where we though they would be. There are a few tougher matchups coming up but also a lot of winnable ones as well,” he said. “The boys have a little catching up to do ov the next month to put themselves in position to hav a shot at making state. The girls on the other hand, have done a nice job positioning themselves as they are currently eighth in power points and giving themselves a real good shot to make state as long as they finish well over the final month.”

The boys opened the season Dec. 5 at Plainview with a short-handed squad and fell 16-5 with the high scorers being Jeremiah Polak (148) and Charlie Dendinger (147 and 146).
