Local band to make debut at Cedar County Fair

Posted in:

HARTINGTON — County fairs are an opportunity to showcase the best in the county - from the creativity of 4-H projects and showmanship of animals to the exhilarating carnival and innovative exhibits.

This year, the Cedar County Fair will be carrying through with that theme of showcasing local talent even at the grandstand.

Dizzy Cedar - a trio of local men - will be the opening act to Gabby Barrett for Sunday night’s performance. This will mark the first time a band made up entirely of local people will take the stage before a headliner, Greg Heine, Cedar County Fair Board president.

We’re just excited to give these guys an opportunity to showcase here in Cedar County and play in front of a large audience,” he said.

This will be Dizzy Cedar’s big debut as the trio - Trentin Vornhagen of Yankton on drums, Cole Noecker of Harlington as lead singer and guitarist, and Eric Hoesing of Harlington on bass guitar have played only for private parties so far.

That’s where they were “discovered” by the children of the Cedar County Fair Board members who then relayed the band’s great talent to their parents.

Dizzy Cedar specializes in classic rock covers - the “good stuff to dance to” like the Bryan Adams’ classic “Summer of ‘69” and the Eagle’s hit “Take it Easy.” Tom Petty is an artist the band likes to cover, too, Vornhagen said.

The band created one original song.

“The only reason we started the band is to try and bring back the live music and all the stuff our parents talked about - the fun dances they had back in the day,” Vornhagen said.

He said the band learned how to play their instruments “on the go” with none of them proficient when they started out in December 2019.

For their Cedar County Fair gig, Dizzy Cedar will switch it up and learn some country tunes along with other danceable party songs to please the crowd.

Although it’ll be the band’s first major gig, they aren’t getting too nervous, Vornhagen said.

“As long as people are having fun that’s all we care about,” he said. “We just love making music honestly.”

The Cedar County Fair is offering a three-day music event as part of the festivities dubbed CedarStock.

Along with the Gabby Barrett concert Sunday, July 18, the lineup also includes Lanco on Friday, July 16, and Jimmy Allen, on Saturday, July 17.
