Local athletes open indoor track season with area colleges

Posted in:

CRETE— Several Hartington area athletes opened their first indoor action of the year in dominating fashion when the indoor track season opened at Doane College.

HNS alumni Cole Schmidt won the long jump and placed second in the 100M and fifth in the 60M at Hastings.

Allie Rosener, a freshman running for Wayne State College, won the 3,000-meter. Rosener also ran an impressive cross country season for WSC.

Mount Marty College sophomore Brian Santiago finished eighth in the 1000-meter run and 17th in the mile

Another Mount Marty College sophomore, Seth Weibelhaus, was sixth in the 1000 and also competed in the high jump and the 60MH.

Sophie Noecker finished 10th in the 200-meter dash.

Currently both Noecker and Wiebelhaus are training as multi-competitors.

Wiebelhaus will be training for the Decathlon (10 events) while Noecker trains for the heptathlon (seven events; hurdles, shot put, high jump, javelin, long jump, 800M and the 200M)

Noecker is coming off of a foot surgery. She sustained an injury long jumping in her freshman outdoor season.

Coaches say she will have to be patient in coming back to full speed.
