Local athletes earn spots on All Star teams

NORFOLK — As the summer all-star circuit heats up for football, basketball and volleyball; several area athletes are set to play in the Northeast Community College basketball game Friday, June 2 at the Cox Activities Center with the girls’ game to tip off at 6 p.m. and the boys’ game scheduled for an 8 p.m. tip.

Cedar Catholic. Hartington-Newcastle and Wynot will be sending players to the contest and the team are split by jersey colors.

Cedar Catholic and Hartington-Newcastle will represent the “Light” team while Wynot will be playing for the “Dark” jerseys.

Makenna Noecker, who averaged over 20 points per game, has been selected to play for the Light squad after a stellar career for the Lady Trojans.

Alivia Morten, the jill-of-all-trades for the Lady Wildcats, will also play for the Light team.

Amber Lawson, the backbone of Wynots run to the Class D-2 title game in Lincoln, will represent the Dark squad for the Lady Blue Devils.

Brendan Dittmer of Elkhorn Valley and Bob Hayes of Ponca have been selected to coach the Light team and Rod Peters of Bancroft-Rosalie and Kobe Lade from Battle Creek will lead the Dark squad.

Cedar Catholic has a couple of representatives on the Light team for the boys.

Tyan Baller, who finished a great senior season averaging nearly 13 points per game, will be suited up for the Light team.

Teammate, Jaxson Bernecker who scored right with Baller through the season and pulled down nearly eight rebounds per game will reunite with him on the hardwood.

Laurel-Concord-Coleridge’s Jake Rath, who averaged a double-double for the Bears will represent the Dark team.

Coaches for the Light team will be Luke Bulau from O’Neill St. Mary’s and Kevin Janata from Howells-Dodge.

Dark team coaches are Kevin Manzer from Norfolk Catholic and Derric Werner from Elkhorn Valley.
