Leo Casey

LAUREL — Leo Casey, 85, Laurel , died Aug. 1, 2018, at Faith Regional Health Services, Norfolk. Visitation and a Vigil service were Sunday at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Laurel, and continued Monday one hour prior to services. Mass of Christian Burial was Aug. 6 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, with the Rev. David Liewer and Rev. James McCluskey officiating. Burial was at the Laurel Cemetery, with Military Rites by the Laurel Veterans Post 4504 and 54. Pallbearers were Julia, Calvin, Nolan, Anna and Kolby Casey, and Lee Larson. Honorary pallbearers were Ron Wege, Don Roeder, Dan Greeny, Bob Sanders and Dan Madsen. Arrangements were under the direction of the Wintz Funeral Home in Laurel. Leo Casey was born Oct. 31, 1932, to William Bernard and Emma (McIntyre) Casey in the Ponca- Jackson area. He was baptized at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, Jackson. They lived near the Ponca-Obert area before moving to Wayne. When Leo’s mother died, he stayed with the Beeks family in Wayne. They became family to him in so many ways. Leo served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War, from 1953-1955. He was stationed in Korea and Hawaii. Leo married the love of his life, Janice Loeb, at the Carroll Catholic Church, Dec. 27, 1956. They farmed by Carroll and Belden, then moved to Sioux City, Iowa. Janice and Leo then moved to Laurel, where Leo started his own business – Casey Roofing Company in 1964. Leo also restored and built new houses in Laurel. On weekends, he kept busy in another business, the Randolph Ballroom for 32 years. He and Janice met many wonderful people during these years. Leo is survived by his wife, Jan, Laurel; son, Jim and wife, Dawn (Ebmeier) Casey, Laurel; grandchildren, Julia, Calvin, Nolan, Anna and Kolby Casey; sistersin- law, Jackie Casey, Colorado Springs, Colo., and Laurie Loeb; nephews, Bob and Rick Casey, Sioux City, Iowa; Tim Casey, Alabama; Tom and Robert Casey, Colorado; Joe Casey, Kentucky; Pat Casey, Rockport, Mo.; Robert Loeb Jr., Sioux City, Iowa; and Lonnie Curtis (Beatrice’s daughter), Henderson, Nev. Preceding Leo in death were his parents; son, Donald, in 1979; daughter, Debra, in 1986; parentsin- law, Howard & Mildred (Tramp) Loeb and Beatrice (Noecker) Loeb; a sister, Mary Casey; brothers, Bill Casey, Sioux City, Iowa, and Jim Casey, Buena Vista, Colo.; sisterin- law, Betty Casey, Sioux City, Iowa; brothers-in-law, Robert Loeb and Randy Casey, Norfolk.
