Lady Wildcats post a 2-1 tourney record

HARTINGTON – The Lady Wildcats put together a 2-1 mark during Saturday’s Hartington Tournament.

The Lady Cats lost more than just one game, though, they also lost an important cog in their volleyball machine.

HNS opened the tourney against LCC. The Lady Cats were leading the contest until Abbe Morten went out with an ankle injury. The team was never the same after that as the Lady Bears rallied to take the lead and the win.

Hartington-Newcastle rebounded to earn wins over Emerson-Hubbard (25-13, 25-5) and Wausa (21-25, 25-13, 25-21) following the loss to Laurel-Concord-Coleridge (20-25, 9-25).

During the opening match loss to the Lady Bears, Kayden Jueden recorded team-highs in kills (six) and digs (nine) followed by Abbe Morten with four kills.

Autumn Lammers set up the offense with 11 set assists and five digs to go along with two ace serves. Keanna Korth chipped in with three digs and two aces for Hartington-Newcastle.

In the sweep against Emerson-Hubbard, Kayden Jueden posted 11 kills, six digs and six aces followed by Korth with four kills, eight digs and nine aces for HNS.

Lammers finished with 15 set assists. Alivia Morten and Keeley Weipen did their best to keep the offense off balance as they both fired three ace serves over the net.

From the sweep over Wausa, Kayden Jueden picked up a double-double with 17 kills and 11 digs to go along with four aces while Korth added six kills and nine digs for HNS.

Lammers again set up the offense, recording 23 set assists and two aces,

Weipen tallied five digs, two kills and two aces as Makenna Clarkson finished with four digs, three kills and three aces.

HNS is now 15-7 on the season.
