Lady Wildcats hoist the hardware at Battle Creek meet

Hartington-Newcastle cross country teams travel to Kearney

BATTLE CREEK — The Hartington- Newcastle cross country team traveled to Kearney to compete in the prestigious University of Nebraska-Kearney High School Cross Country meet Sept. 25.

The meet brought together more than 500 runners from across Nebraska.

The Wildcats ran in the Class C Division of the meet and ended up 32nd as a team with a score of 544.

Gothenburg won the team title with a score of 43, Lincoln Christian was second with 49.

The top runners for Hartington-Newcastle were Alex and Adam Elks.

The Lady Wildcats had a great showing in Kearney placing 15th out of 29 teams with 259 points.

Columbus Scotus won the Class C Girls Division with 54 points, Auburn was second with 87.

Claire Rolfes and Ava Noecker paced the Lady Wildcats.

On Sept. 29 both team competed in the Battle Creek Invitational.

The Lady Wildcats won the girls’ portion of the meet with 30 points, nine points ahead of runner-up, Homer.

Rolfes and Noecker finished third and fourth respectively in the individual standings.

Rolfes ran the 5,000 meters in 22:37.60 while Noecker completed the course in 23:23.21.

Carmen Buschkamp placed ninth and Abby Anderson came in 14th.

Isabel Rolfes placed 27th. Lilly Harris of Homer won the race in 21:58.80.

For the Wildcats, the team placed fifth with 83 points.

Norfolk Catholic won the team title with a total of 23 points. Bloomfield was second with 30, Battle Creek had 49 and Homer was fourth with 62.

Alex Elks was the top Wildcat runner coming in 12th, Adam Elks was 18th, Cole Rosener was 26th, Isaac Hernandez-Santiago placed was 31st and Coven Joachimsen was 34th.

Rounding out the Wildcat runners were Aaron Wortmann in 41st, Aidan Anderson at 43rd, Braeden Kleinschmit was 48th, Harrison Kuehn was 53rd Gavin Joachimsen was 61st Sam Kuehn was 67th.
