Lady Wildcats fall in L&C Tny. to Winnebago
HARTINGTON — The Hartington-Newcastle girls basketball team defeated Creighton, then fell to Winnebago last week in the quarterfinals of the Lewis and Clark Conference Tourney.
The Lady Cats put together a 51-46 showing against Creighton Feb. 1, but fell 78-51 to Winnebago Feb. 4.
Winnebago raced out to a huge 23-9 first quarter lead against the Lady Cats, who then spent the rest of the game trying to dig out of the hole.
Hartington-Newcastle bounced back in the second frame, only allowing the Indians to put up 10 points, but only managing nine of their own.
Cold shooting hurt HNS as they only connected on 26 percent of their shots from the field and 56 percent of their shots from the line.

The Lady Cats erased a first-half deficit then went on to earn the five-point win over Creighton in first round action.
The Lady Cats put together a 14-12 run to open the contest, but Creighton came back in the second frame to earn an 18-15 advantage and take a 39-29 lead into the break.
The Lady Cats outscored the Bulldogs 22-16 in the second half to earn the win.
Alivia Morten paced the HNS offense with 17 points. Abbe Morten and Kayden Jueden also hit for double figures on the night. Jueden had a solid night as she hit for a double-double, by pulling down a team-high 13 rebounds.
