Lady Trojans end regular season; enter SubDistrict Tny.

HARTINGTON - The Cedar Catholic girls basketball team ended its regular season with a win and a couple of losses to finish the campaign with a 10-13 record as the Lady Trojans head into subdistrict action this week.

The Lady Trojans defeated Elkhorn Valley 42-39 here Feb. 6, then dropped a home game to Battle Creek, 44-34 and on the road at Pierce on Feb. 9, 38-33.

Cedar was set to enter play in the C2-8 Sub-District Feb. 13 against Ponca in Crofton.

Against the Lady Bluejays, Cedar stayed with Pierce in a very fast-paced opening eight minutes, but trailed at the first rest stop, 19-14.

The pace slowed in the second quarter and the team went to the halftime break with the Lady Trojans still trailing by five, 25-20.

Cedar Catholic erased the deficit by the end of the third as the teams headed into the final stanza deadlocked at 28-28.

Pierce won the fourth quarter and the game by the six-point difference.

Addison Walter paced the Lady Trojans with 11 points in the game and just missed a double-double with nine rebounds.

Anisten Wortmann added six points, Katy Jones and Katelyn Arens each tossed in four. Jones and Wortmann handed out three assists each.

Cedar Catholic earned a lead over Battle Creek in the early going. In fact, the Lady Trojans led 8-7 after the first frame then increased the lead to 23-15 at the intermission.

Unfortunately, the lead dwindled in the third quarter and the teams headed to the final stanza with Cedar Catholic clinging to a 28-25 advantage.

The Lady Braves outscored the Lady Trojans down the stretch, 19-6 to steal the game.

Jones led a faily balanced Cedar Catholic offensive attack with 10 points, Bernecker added nine and Anisten Wortmann tallied eight.

Walter and Arens pulled down eight missed shots a piece and Wortmann and Samantha pick handed out three assists each.

Against the Lady Falcons on Feb. 6, Wortmann had an outstanding offensive performance with 21 points in the contest, canning half of her field goals. She also grabbed eight caroms and had seven steals on the night.

Jones added six points, Bernecker tacked on five, Walter chipped in four and Bailey Hochstein scored three.

Cedar Catholic had its most productive frame of the night in the fourth and outlasted the Lady Falcons by the 42-39 final score.
