Lady Hawks lose against ‘challenging’ Ponca, Wynot

Posted in:

RANDOLPH – The Lady Hawks had a challenging stretch last week as they faced both Ponca and Wynot on back-to-back nights.

Up first was a matchup in Ponca against the Lady Indians Dec. 7. The first quarter saw host Ponca double up on Osmond-Randolph holding a 12-6 advantage. Ponca used a big second quarter where they went on a 20-1 run in the quarter to take the halftime lead 32-7.

The third quarter saw a fairly even matchup as Ponca again held an advantage 7-5 in the quarter to bring their lead to 39-12 going into the final quarter.

The Hawks used a big final push where they scored 19 points in the quarter alone, they were able to cut the Ponca lead down to 14 at one point.

Ponca would hold on to their lead and defend their home court for the 49-31 victory.

On Dec. 8, the Wynot Blue Devils came to Randolph ranked as the No. 1 team in D2.

Solid defense by Wynot made it very challenging for most of the game for Osmond-Randolph.

Wynot would take a 13-2 lead after the first quarter and turned it into a 26-9 lead going into halftime. The second half scoring would look very similar to the first half as Wynot would hold leads of 16-5 and 11-4 to finish out the second half for a 53-18 final score.

“Every game so far we’ve came out and have had slow starts where we just end up putting ourself in a very deep hole that’s challenging to get out of,” said Coach Bradley Wright. “When you do that against good teams like the ones on our schedule it’s hard to win those games.”
