Lady Devils struggle against West Point, Crofton

West Point — The Wynot Lady Blue Devils played in the West Point Beemer Holiday Tournament and ran into some tough opponents and lost a pair of games.

In first-round action it was the West Point Beemer Lady Cadets who pulled away in the second half for the 49-23 win. Then on Thursday the Crofton Lady Warriors held the Lady Devils to single-digits in each of the final two frames to earn the win.

Wynot’s one bright spot against the Cadets was Karley Heimes who led all scorers with 14 points.

West Point Beemer had a trio of double-figure scorers led by Sidney Swanson with 12 points. Reece Snodgrass was right behind with 11 points and Brookly Weddle contributed 10 points to the Lady Cadets win.

In the opening quarter West Point Beemer got a 3-pointer and a field goal from Jayden Meiergerd. Wynot got five points from Karley Heimes and a bucket by Emersyn Sudbeck and held a 10-8 lead early.

In the second quarter Wynot went cold from the field managing only a pair of baskets. Meanwhile Sidney Swanson poured in six points and Brooklyn Weddle hit a pair of fieldgoals as West Point Beemer opened up a 22-14 halftime lead.

The third quarter saw the Lady Cadets pulling away with a 16-7 run lead by five points each from Reece Snodgrass and Rachel Groth and four points from Brooklyn Weddle.

Karley Heimes had all seven of Wynot’s points in the period. The Lady Cadets expanded their lead to 38- 21 going into the final period.

Wynot’s offense continued to sputter in the final quarter. West Point Beemer got four more points from Reece Snodgrass and a trey by Emily Toelle as they earned the 49-23 win.

On Thursday afternoon in the game against the Crofton Lady Warriors it was a story of two halves.

In the first half the Lady Blue Devils would stand toe to toe against the Lady Warriors but in the second half it was all Crofton as Wynot would manage only one field goal in each quarter after halftime as the Lady Warriors cruised to the 55-32 win.

Leading scores for the Lady Warriors were Alexis Folkers with 13 points. Lacey Sprakel had 11 points and six rebounds and both Ella Wagge and Kaley Einrem each contributed 10 points in a very balanced attack.

Wynot was paced by Karley Heimes with 10 points and Autumn Lawson hit a pair of three pointers on her way to nine points.

In the first quarter the two teams would trade baskets. Crofton was led by Kaley Einrem and Lacey Sprakel with seven and six points respectively. Wynot countered with eight points from Karley Heimes and a three pointer by Autumn Lawson as the Lady Devils trailed by 16-15 after one quarter of play.

Wynot would rally to take a 28-26 halftime lead. Autumn Lawson hit a second three pointer and Kendra Pinkelman also connected from behind the arc for the Lady Devils . Crofton hung close thanks to five points from Ella Wragge and a trey by Alexis Folkers.

Wynot’s offense went cold in the third quarter. They were only able to hit one bucket from the field that being a lay-in by Kendra Pinkelman. Crofton went on a 15-5 run led by four more points by Alexis Folkers and a three-pointer by Ella Wragge.

Wynot could not find the range in the fourth quarter either. A solo three-pointer by Ella Brummer was their only basket from the field. Crofton got four points each from Ellie Tramp and Alexis Folkers as they earned the 55-32 win.
