Lady Cardinals left looking for first win
“With the lack of consistency and production from my front row, we have been subbing a lot of people in the games from the bench, trying to find someone to give the team a little spark.”
Randolph hosted Ponca Tuesday and then hosts a triangular Thursday against Tri County Northeast and Osmond.
Jocilyn Greiner said the Lady Cardinals could have played better against the Lady Bears, but she will not talk down to the efforts the girls have been putting in practice.
“I just feel our communication on the floor could have been better Thursday night,” Greiner said. “Our setters and hitters just weren’t connecting. Then the back row just weren’t moving our feet. Our serves were good, and when we were able to get an attack or a block, we were pretty good at that.
“Our communication is key. So far, it is just that we have new setters on the floor this year. I don’t think everyone’s used to playing with each other. We have new sophomores that have never been on varsity and are just now starting. We have a couple seniors that are fresh out on the floor as well.”
Greiner said the team needs to work on their service game.
“So we can get on a run and get some points on the board,” she said. “We serve all right in practice, but when we play, we seem to have issues with that.”
RANDOLPH – The Randolph Lady Cardinals are still searching for their first volleyball win in 2023, but the positives continue to present themselves even if in small doses.
Randolph (0-6) fell to Laurel-Concord-Coleridge 3-0 (25-8, 25-8, 25-9) as Ella Scott had 10 digs.
“LCC is a very good volleyball team with some very talented freshmen,” Randolph head coach Lyndsee English said. “Our girls were unable to stop their strong attack. We did have a lot of block touches at the net, which helped out our back row when it came to defense. We were unable to get a good offense going throughout the night.
“It was altogether a disappointing performance on the night. We as a team had a good talk in the locker room after the game and I am hoping that things can start improving as we move forward.”
English said she has attempted to make some adjustments.
“We had a couple of practices now where I simplified the rotation and less people will be rotating in and out of the game,” English said. “We will move forward with this from here on out and I am praying that these girls can play more consistently as a team. I need a lot more production from my setters and attackers in the front row.
