Lady Blue Devils roll through foes to wind up regular season

Posted in:

HARTINGTON —The Wynot Lady Blue Devils seem to be rounding into post season form as they took care of business Friday when they rolled over the Hartington-Newcastle Lady Wildcats 49-22.

Wynot used big second and third quarter scoring runs to pull away from the Wildcats and a full-court pressure defense to earn the win.

A 33-21 advantage rebounding also was factor in the win.

“We came out and competed very well to start the game,” HNS Coach Josh Morten said. “Kayden got in foul trouble early. Everything goes through her and with her not on the floor our team is very different. She didn’t play the whole second quarter and it showed. Wynot is a very good team and very well coached. We just got down and couldn’t recover.”

Wynot continues to get solid play from Karley Heimes who took scoring honors with 13 points and eight rebounds. Twins Edyn and Emersyn Sudbeck helped the Lady Blue Devils’ cause with nine and eight points, respectively.

Hartington-Newcastle was led by Keanna Korth with 11 points and Kayden Jueden and Alivia Morten with four points each.

The opening quarter saw the Lady Wildcats competing well. HartingtonNewcastle got five points from Keanna Korth and a 3-pointer by Alivia Morten. Wynot got 3-pointers from Krystal Sudbeck, Edyn Sudbeck and Lauren Haberman as well as buckets inside by Karley Heimes and Amy Tramp as Wynot earned an early 17-12 advantage.

The Lady Blue Devils turned up the defensive intensity in the second quarter holding the Lady Cats to just a pair of free throws. Meanwhile Wynot got seven more points from Karley Heimes and buckets by Kendra Pinkelman and Emersyn Sudbeck to help build a 30-14 halftime lead.

It was more of the same in the third quarter as the Lady Wildcats were held to a lone Kayden Jueden field goal. Wynot got four points each from Emersyn Sudbeck and Karley Heimes and a long trey by Autumn Lawson to increase their lead to 41-16.

Keanna Korth tried to rally the Wildcats in the fourth quarter with her six-point effort. Wynot got a pair of field goals from Edyn Sudbeck and one each from Kayla Pinkelman and Karley Heimes to make the final 49-22.
