Lady Blue Devils outlast Plainview

WYNOT — The Wynot Lady Blue Devils continued their winning ways on Friday night as they beat a stubborn Plainview Lady Pirates club 42-34.

The contest turned into a defensive battle that saw the Lady Blue Devils wear the Lady Pirates down to eventually pick up the win.

Wynot was led by Allison Wieseler with 13 points and 11 rebounds and Kinslee Heimes with 10 points, with most of hers coming from the freethrow line.

Lauren Haberman and Amber Lawson hit for eight points each.

Plainview was paced by Abbie Kromareck with 11 points and Keana Johnson who finished with 10 points.

The two teams traded baskets in the first quarter. The Lady Pirates got six points from Kromareck.

Wynot countered with five points from Wieseler and a trey by Myrah Sudbeck as the Lady Blue Devils clung to a 12-11 lead.

In the second quarter, Wynot got a pair of baskets from Haberman and a basket by Heimes in a low scoring period. The Pirates got a pair of putbacks off of offensive rebounds by Marque Albin. Wynot led 22-19 at halftime.

Baskets were hard to find in the third quarter for both teams. Wynot got a basket each from Wieseler and Heimes. Plainview was held to a bucket each from Johnson and Kromareck.

In the final period, Wynot went on a 15-11 run led by four points from Lawson and 6-of-6 free-throw shooting by Heimes.

Plainview tried to rally in the final minutes with a pair of three-pointers by Johnson, but it came up short as Wynot earned the 42-34 win.

CREIGHTON — The Lady Blue Devils had little trouble downing Creighton last Tuesday night as they rolled to a big 53-17 win.

A 25-4 second-quarter scoring burst set the tone for the game as the Wynot ran its season record to 9-6 and the Lady Bulldogs’ season record dropped to 2-12.

Wynot was led by Allison Wieseler with 12 points and Amber Lawson with 10 points.

Creighton was led by its senior guard Olivia Kuhlman with 11 points and seven rebounds.

It was a sluggish start, as Wynot got a three-pointer in the opening quarter to help them to a 6-4 lead at the end of one.

Kuhlman and Brooke Pavella each had a bucket for the Lady Bulldogs.

Wynot found its offensive rhythm in the second quarter as it went on a 25-4 run.

The charge was led by Lawson and Wieseler with seven points each.

Lauren Haberman helped fuel the run with five points as Wynot pulled away to take a 31-11 halftime lead.

Kuhlman had six of the seven points scored by the Lady Bulldogs.

Wynot’s defensive pressure continued to wear on Creighton in the third quarter. Haberman drained a three for Wynot. Alayna Jueden had the Lady Bulldogs’ only basket of the period and Wynot had increased its lead to 39-13.

Reserves mopped up in the final quarter for the Lady Blue Devils. Ella Brummer came off the bench to hit a trio of baskets and four other players hit from the field.

Carly Haigens and Jueden each had a basket for Creighton as Wynot took home the 53-17 win.
