Lady Blue Devils claim SubDistrict title

Posted in:

WYNOT — The Wynot Lady Blue Devils are champions of subdistrict D-2 6 as they rolled over the Humphrey St. Francis Lady Flyers on Thursday night.

Wynot built a big 28-9 halftime lead and their defense made it stand up as they earned the 45-25 win.

Wynot had a very balanced offense led by Myrah Sudbeck and Allison Wieseler with 10 points each. Kenna Oligmueller had a solid game at the low post to finish with eight points and 10 rebounds. Courtney Pinkelman helped as she came off the bench to drain a couple of 3-pointers to contribute to the Lady Blue Devils offense.

Humphrey St. Francis got a big game from their low post player Isabel Preister who supplied most of Lady Flyers’ offense finishing with a game high 19 points.

The Lady Flyers had trouble early dealing with the Lady Blue Devils relentless full court pressure and would get only three points in the opening quarter.

Wynot attack was led by Kayla Pinkelman with 4 points and a three pointer each from Myrah Sudbeck and Allison Wieseler as they built a 12-3 early advantage.

The Blue Devils would keep the pressure on in the second quarter and turnovers lead to numerous transition baskets for the home team.

Kenna Oligmueller hit six points on the inside, Courtney Pinkelman hit a trey and Kinslee Heimes got a basket plus one as Wynot went on a 16-6 run to lead 26-9 at halftime. Isabel Preister hit a pair of mid range jumpers and Karly Jarosz had a steal and layin for the Flyers.

Wynot’s offense went ice cold in the third quarter as they had more turnovers than points. All they could manage is a pair of free throws by Kenna Oligmueller and a three pointer from Allison Wieseler at the buzzer. Luckily their defense continued to dominate as the Lady Flyer’s Isabel Preister had all six of their points in the period. Wynot was still comfortable in command leading 33- 15 with one quarter left to play.

Both offenses picked it up a little in the fourth quarter.

St. Francis got four points from Grace McPhillips and a bucket each by Kali Jarosz, Ava Hastretter and Isabel Priester.

Wynot’s Myrah Sudbeck found the range hitting for seven points and Courtney Pinkelman collected her second three pointer as Wynot moves on for a chance to get to state with the 45-25 win.
