Lady Bears put together impressive wins over Ponca, Randolph

LAUREL — After dropping its first match of the season, the Laurel- Concord-Coleridge volleyball team has rolled o three straight wins to improve to 3-1 on the young season.

The Lady Bears pulled o a couple of Lewis & Clark Conference regular season wins over Randolph Aug. 31 on the road, 25-8, 25-8 and 25-9 in a sweep and a thrilling 19-25, 25-20, 25-13 and 25-15 come-from-behind win over Ponca in LCC’s home opener.

Laurel-Concord-Coleridge had little trouble in taking care of the Lady Cardinals in the sweep on the road, allowing Randolph only 25 points in the entire match in the best- of-five-sets contest.

Rena Rasmussen and Mallory Er- iksen each had six kills in the match, Delaney Johnson added four.

The service line was very eective for LCC as the Lady Bears registered 21 aces at the line in the three sets.

Carlie Kvols had seven, Rasmus -

sen had six, Bailey Graf had four Avery Hahne had two and Eriksen and Tali Erwin each had one.

Kvols tipped up 17 set assists in the match.

In the home match against Ponca, the Lady Bears took over the match late in the second set and never really looked back.

After dropping the first set by the 25-19 score, the score was tied 20-20 in set two after LCC was called for four hits.

Laurel-Concord-Coleridge went on a 5-0 run to close out the set on a couple of Eriksen kills, a coouple of Ponca errors and an ace serve by Graf, one of her three on the night.

The Lady Bears made it 10 straight points as they opened set three with a 5-0 run.

Johnson opened the set with a tip-kill at the net followed by a Ponca error.

Back-to-back winners by Kvols and Rasmussen made it 4-0 to open

the set then an Avery Hahne ace, one of her four in the match made it 5-0.

After a Lady Indian winner to get on the board, the Lady Indians responded with an Erwin winner o the net, a Ponca hitting miscue and Rasmussen kill o a block.

LCC enjoyed leads 16-6 and 23-9 before the set settled at 25-13 to give the Lady Bears a 2-1 advantage in the match.

Set four was more of the same as the Lady Bears dominated the set to pull away with the 25-15 win in the fourth and final set to take the match.

Eriksen had a dozen kills in the match, Rasmussen had 11, Erwin had nine and Tyler Recob slammed down five.

The Lady Bears had another strong serving night recording 13 winners from the service line.

Hahne and Graf had their four and three respectively while Erwin, Rasmussen and Kvols each had two. Kvols completed a double-double with 30 assists and 16 digs, Erwin just missed a triple-double with her nine kills 19 successful passes and 14 digs. Laney Schutte had 16 good passes.

The Lady Bears were set to return to action on Sept. 5 in a triangular in Walthill against the Lady Blujays and the Homer Lady Knights.

They will play in the Wakefield tournament Sept. 7 and 9 before host ing Tri County Northeast on Sept. 12.
