Kuehn wins medalist honors at Hartington Invite

HARTINGTON — The Cedar Catholic golf team turned in its best score of the season last week, but it wasn’t quite good enough to top Battle Creek for the Hartington Invitational title.

Cedar turned in a 319 team scorecard, while Battle Creek finished the day with an impressive 307 to win the team title.

Riley Kuehn fired a 72 to earn medalist honors. He had the best nine-hole score of the day when he shot a 33 on the back nine. Only nine other golfers, including Cedar’s Ted Bengston and Nolan Klug, were able to record a game in the 30s on the day.

For the second day in a row, a Cedar golfer ended the day tied with Battle Creek’s Ty Heimes for the tournament top spot. Bengston and Heimes played an extra hole in the MidState Conference Tournament in Crofton to determine who would claim medalist honors
