HARTINGTON — Kevin M. Kruse, 68, Hartington, died March 23, 2024, at Avera Sacred Heart Hospital, Yankton, S.D.

Mass of Christian Burial will be March 27, at 10 a.m., at Holy Family (Sts. Peter & Paul) Catholic Church, Bow Valley, with the Rev. Jim Keiter officiating.

Burial will be at Sts. Peter & Paul Cemetery, Bow Valley.

Pallbearers will be his nephews, Mike Loecker, Brad Loecker, Terry Mackeprang, Lonnie Mackeprang, Mark Mackeprang, Tim Kruse, Chad Stevens and Brian Stevens.

Honorary pallbearers will be Kevin’s nieces. Visitation and a vigil service were Tuesday at church, and will continue Wednesday morning, one hour prior to services.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Wintz Funeral Home, Hartington.

Kevin Michael was born Aug. 6, 1955, in Yankton, S.D., to Raymond J. and Leona E. (Albrecht) Kruse. He grew up in the Bow Valley area and attended elementary school in Bow Valley until the eighth grade. Kevin graduated from Hartington Cedar Catholic High School. After high school, Kevin began farming with his dad and eventually took over management of the family farm when his dad was not able to.

Kevin was a member of Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church his entire life. He was very dedicated to keeping an hour of adoration every week at church. Kevin liked to play cards in his younger years and also enjoyed playing horseshoes. Kevin was a very quiet, gentle, and humorous man.

Kevin is survived by four siblings, Marilyn Loecker, Yankton, S.D.; Mardell (Bob) Mackeprang, Crofton; Melvin (Jane) Kruse, Hartington; Carol (Bill) Stevens, Fordyce; many nieces and nephews and great-nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Raymond and Leona Kruse; brother-in-law, Vern Loecker; niece, Cheryl Sommers; nephew, Pat Kruse.
